Oops, didn't see the 'up to 3 votes' option and only selected 'Random internet search'.
Add to that 'Enjoy the science behind the craft'.

Re: New member poll
This don't make sense, first you say that you want to know FROM THE NEWEST MEMBERS how they got interested but limit it to longer term members.
So at the end who should vote?
Maybe it's cause english isn't my motherlanguage

I always wanted to build my own still ever since I was 14 but never had the funds to attempt it. I tried some local hooch made by the blueberry farmers out of "Indian" sugar and remembered my calling. Glad I found this site as it certainly has sent me in the right direction. Without proper guidance it's pretty easy for things to bad in the boom way.

Re: New member poll
Yeah......LW is a confusing fellow.
Now its story time. I watched shows on tv and had always been interested in the science of alcohol. before this venture, it was making my own explosives. not just putting gun powder in a pipe and blowing it up like you did as a kid. I mean really mixing chemicals and making a kick ass BOOM. My wife didnt really aprove of that, and I kinda moved on.....Kinda. I mean, I still enjoy blowing shit up now and then. So one day an aquaintence of mine told me he started making likker. I thought, hmm, that sounds cool. Then came a little research. I brought this new found info to my partner in crime while drinking one night. our wifes thought we would never go through with it. They were wrong. You see, unlike explosives, likker making has so many options, and there is alot more to master. So as of yet, it has not lost my attention, but rather turned into more of an addiction. If my wife knew how much I spent on some of this shit..... I think she would be not too happy. I still catch hell about it, but she understands
. My family has been most intrigued by my stilling adventures. Hell I hate wiskey, but my dad loves it. And as luck would have it, I was able to produce a palateable spirit for the old bastard. He liked it.... and that fueled my love for this hobby even more. My wife asked the other day, "When are you going to get a hobby that wont get you thrown in jail?" Probably never, that just aint no fun!

Re: New member poll
My whole interest in making my own stuff started this summer. A friend of mine was talking about it, but i never picked interest for it. Not untill i went to poland. There i drank some good whiskey, made by my uncle. He let me help him with one batch then after that i got into it. After returning, me and my friend we talked about it, bought a book, Making gin and vodka by John Stone. After awhile, we put some money together and went for it.

Re: New member poll
Since my background is in chemistry, I had to answer "the science"..but need to add:
Given the situation we find ourselves in today...economy, anger, (fill in your own blank here), etc....it isn't too inconceivable that in taking a trip to the "likker store", you may just find empty shelves (like at the grocery too)...and that would suck.
I don't even really drink booze (beer is my poison), but man, I have loved learning the hobby...and if ever beer ain't available, well, now I can handle that!

Your right Duck, the outlaw thing is kinda cool, until them bastards are bearing down on you with there guns drawn. Its all because of a little misunderstanding. And your wife is pissed cause they caught her in the front yard all inocent, but they got her with her hands in the air too. and...... Those bastards.

Where I come from, even the law dont know what a still looks like. They checked the garage.....never said a thing...Those bastards.
