I finally got everything together for my first build, with the intention of building the offset valved reflux. Actually have it all together with the exception of solder, but after lots of reading have decided it might be better to build the Bok. I am going to be using a 24 qt ss pot for the boiler for now, and was wondering if there was any real benefit in having the valved design.
Also, been lurking for awhile but this is my first post. Hi all!

Compare a Bok vs. Valved offset reflux

Re: Compare a Bok vs. Valved offset reflux
I built a valved reflux first, then a Bokakob 'mini'. The mini is by far the easier to run.
It is the very things that we think we know, that keep us from learning what we should know.
Valved Reflux, 3"x54" Bok 'mini', 2 liebig based pots and the 'Blockhead' 60K btu propane heat

Re: Compare a Bok vs. Valved offset reflux
Hi all, have been lurking for a couple weeks since I came on board and this is the first mention of a valved reflux still that I have seen. Of course I found this great forum after I had my valved reflux nearly finished. I used the copper boiler and just built up from there. After a few runs for cleaning, I ran 6 gallons corn and molasses thou it. It seemed to work really well, there a couple things I may change but I have another mash bobbling away. And I can't wait to run it. So I have to wonder way almost no one builds these Stills? Do they have a safety issue?
Thanks In Advance, Radman

Radman...
I started to build the valved reflux myself but ultimately went with the Bokakob. I don't think there are any safety issues with the valved reflux, but I think the popular consensus around here is that it is just a less efficient design, and the Bok is easier to operate, especially for beginners. Also, the Bok uses fewer fittings and less copper so is cheaper to build. Best of luck.
