Old Tyme Potter and Pier 1 imports often have nice bottles and new tapered corks... I'm assuming they're for decorative use for kitchen oils/vinegars...
But to help preserve the cork for alcohol storage and to facilitate ease of removal... is this a dumb idea: I've seen corks before that seem to have a waxy coating on... I was wondering if melting some parafin wax in a pot then dipping corks in, removing as much excess as you can with towels if you'd gain any benefit from that?
Not sure if parafin wax dissolves in alcohol or not?

Re: Whiskey Bottles and Corks
People here in EC use to open coconuts, get the water out, fill it with local sugar cane likker and seal it with candle wax.
Than they dig a small hole in the soil and leave the cocos some month there before drinking the aged and alined cocnut spirit.
So it should work on cork.

Unlike wine and beer, whiskey can actually get better if a little air exchange is allowed, so don't worry about getting the corks all sealed up with wax and all. As long as the cork is good quality, you should be fine, and hell, if they aren't, good quality corks aren't too expensive.

not that is is toxic, but if your cork was coated in it, it would leak. Also, may give yer likker a funny taste?Dnderhead wrote:So you'd have a waxy buildup?????MuleKicker wrote:paraffin is soluble in alcohol.
