Need some reassurance..

Post by WhiskyPete »

Recently built a 12L pot still my condensor is an antique fire extinguisher which my 1/2" copper runs through. It's about a foot and a half long and holds about a litre of water. I have it fed with an ordinary garden hose. I've only run my still with water so far. Problem is I was wondering if there was a way to know if all vapours were being condensed. I have about a foot and a half of copper tubing after my condensor and it's cool to the touch. The distillate is cool and there are no signs of any water vapour escaping through the end. I may be looking for problems too hard, but is it safe to assume that all vapours are being condensed? Thanks in advance.

if knocks down water it will knock down alcohol. alcohol is easier to condense than water.

Thanks y'all! I guess I was kind of worrying that somehow steam was escaping, but I couldn't see it... A tad paranoid I guess.

Pete, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of paranoia, especially where safety is concerned. 8)

Piccies are coming LWTC they are on my phone right now. My next step is trying find out how to upload them......My computer skills are severely lagging behind my fermenting skills, probably closer to my distilling skills.
