He's making dandelion wine instead of likker. It's spring time and the weeds will be covering every cemetary, football field and lawn yellow for the next month.
Properly made, some of the best tasting wine one can make.

Although... I have made cooked green salad with dandelion greens, and although you can't get drunk, it does taste darn good.

when they start to grow, cover with newspaper,,cardboard whatever, this will "bleach" them, they will be milder good for salads.but not good for wine.

What are the heads? Is it the flowers or the leaves or both. Clearly not the roots.xxx wrote: ... 1 gal dadilions just the heads ...

Re: side tracked
dandelion wine you use just the flowers, removing "all green" other flowers can be used, just make sure their not toxic.
and for you distillers out there, flowers can be used to add "bouquet" to your spirits.

Re: side tracked
OK thanks Dunder. A gallon of flowers would take several years for me to gather, perhaps decades. Not a lot of dandelions around these parts.

Re: side tracked
Indigenous women kept the people alive by digging 'yam' roots, grubs (very tasty) grinding seed and catching small repliles and mammals. Men caught a kangaroo or something every month or so and they had a feast. Moths were also a very popular food along the east coast. BIG moths, full of nourishment. They had some 50,000 years to adapt. Lots of food from rivers and seas. There is an astounding amount of food available if you know what to look for. I wanted to do my thesis on their economy but it didn't work out for me.
They even had stuff to smoke but I haven't tried it.

This sounds great. I have them all in the yard but have put weed killer for them and the clover. Damn!! Will have to go the pasture and pick some and try it. Thanks for the info.

The indigenous peoples could also have an "X" gene. Much like what the Soone indians here in the states have. This gene enables these people to very efficiantly extract all possible nutritional value from the foods they eat.Dnderhead wrote:its a wonder the natives survived
In these relatively modern times however, this tool that allowed these people to thrive in harsh conditions for centuries (if not thousands of years) has became a liability as their bodies could not adjust to the high sugar and processed food diets of our imposed economy based food supply mongers.
Now these people, in many cases are wrought with diabetes and other weight/ health related issues due to not being able to prepare traditional foods as well as over eating like so many other Americans.
