Does anyone know what the current scrap price is for 316 stainless? I have the opportunity to purchases a 100lb wine fermentor for 1.40 us per pound. I don't know what the hell I would do with it but it seems like a deal and I'll find something to ferment in it.
Guess I'm just looking for some conformation before I go spend a 140 bucks.
Thanks, RD

I just got 0.70 a pound for nonmagnetic stainless, but put it back into copper at 4.00 a lb.

Do you have a picture of it?
What is the volume of the vessel?
Is it conical in the lower part?

No I don't have any pictures. It's not a conical. It looks like it was a custom job, really nice clean welds. looks to hold 30-40 gallons.
it's a little big for hobby but to small for commercial. If nothing else it would make a great cook pot.

Hmmm, not shure if I would go for it, for the same reasons you pointed out.
A conical fermenter would be another talk.

Re: Current stainless scrap price?
depends where you're at.
I've been quoted prices from $2 to $4 a lb for stainless of any type.
if you're buying by the pound think of the added cost of not having to build it yourself.
