Ok...why on earth is an enterprising cooper out there not making new SMALL casks out of used staves from whatever variety..port, bourbon, sherry, wine...whatever. I dont want a new 5 gallon cask, but I dont want a used 59 gallon red wine barrel either...what to do?
I understand it would take retapering both the length and the width of each stave, but a little steam applied to the stave would have to help that stretch....just brainstorming, but it seems like that would be the ticket for what I'd like to do. either that, or let me know if any of you have a used 5 gallon cask laying around...lol

They do that but most are employed by distilleries, I do not thank their is much money in doing it. much like why don't you buy reconditioned furniture.
Iv rebuilt barrels, takes a bit of time, their not steamed , but soaked then dried on one side. (much like a board lying in yard)
