Will boiling water suffice for this? Not filling it with boiling water, but tipping some over the intereior?
What is your favourite/cheapest/easiest way? I've heard dilute bleach, but the smell bothers me a little.

I use Milton, its what they use for disinfecting babies bottles, I also rinse out any bottles out with a mild solution, its cheaper than the brewshop stuff and does a better job.

Careful when you use boiling water, I've had a carboy crack on me. I use bleach, and just rinse it out until I can't smell it anymore.
Hooch.

Only use bleach if your not going to use "whatever" for a time, as it can linger, if you have time to wash,,rinse,, and dry, then it is fine.after cleaning store inverted.

I use oxy clean and a carboy brush to get it clean. After that I use a iodine solution to sanitize it.
Edit. Boiling water is a good way to break a carboy. I pulled that stunt recently.

I use Idohpor, it is an iodine based product. I put about a gallon in the carboy and then add a small amount of Idophor until the water has a slight color to it, slosh it around, sanitation only takes 60 seconds and then drain and it's ready to use.

Warm water with a tbsp of bleach in it for each gallon of water. Let sit full overnight. Dump in washer (for a load of whites...of course) and rinse with clean warm water. Dry it inverted and in the sun if possible. Any of my stalls have always had to do with temperature. I keep a fairly cool house.
