The plate assembly fitted, the 1/4" tube was flattened on the end, which spreads it larger than 1/4", it was then drilled with 1/4" hole, and another piece of 1/4" tube pushed through the 4" wall to suspend the plate assembly, this can be used as a blind thermometer port.
The sight glass hardware now soldered into the column ( without glass ) , the column will need a major clean to get rid of any marks incured during the fabrication.
Keep this up and I'm gonna have to cross the Nullabor, OD.
You buggers are just incredible and your work, bloody superb.

Okay here is the latest, I built the dephlagmater with a drip ring in the head, I must admit this was the hardest part of the build so far.
I attached the drip ring by tacking it with hard silver solder, I had run out of soft solder so I collected all of the droppings of solder and placed the around the ring and hit them with the torch, not the prettiest joint, but it achieved what i wanted
This is the dephlagmater with the product takeoff attached.
Here is the column with the dephlagmater in position, not finally soldered yet, as a major cleanup is required on all parts which will be easier if I do this before the final solder joint.
rednose wrote:Yep, the dephlamator is a little fuzzy to built and you did it in copper what is easy to form.
Actually copper is more difficult to work with, as the heat transfer when making joints can de-solder nearby joints, which is why I tacken the drip ring with hard solder before completing the joint with soft solder. I did not want it to drop off inside the top plate chamber when I attach the dephlagmater to the column.
Thats crazy talk Kiwi
U sippin or swiggin tonight?
It's a sunny afternoon here larry, and I'm having some nice UJSM variant (50 corn 20 malt 20 rye 10 wheat) that's just come out of my 50l carboy. it's about a year old on charred wine barrels. I had a sample a few months back and though "shit, overoaked." it was pure campfire, but the last couple of months have really helped the vanilla and caramal shine though. Next time I'll cut the rye and up the wheat. Glad I like it because I have about three years worth of drinking and giving to go before it's gone .
