i am building a reflux and i was wondering how do yall seal up the where my thermometer goes into the column? also what thermometer do yall use its the last thing i need for my build.

I threaded in a 1/4 compression fitting. my rtd/thermometer probe has a 1/4 shaft. works great.

I bind mine with PTFE tape.

I soldered a 3/8 inch piece of pipe to the side of the column, at betweem a 30-45 degree angle, insert glass thermometer until it hits the oposite wall, putt it back about 1 inch so it is about inthe middle of the column and then slap some flour and water paste around the thermometer and peice of pipe.

The flour and water paste needs to be a bit on the stiff side, but once the heat hits it, it gets good and hard with no leaking.

I am thinking of going to a digital thermometer and and getting a piece of cork to fit the 3/8 inch pipe, drill a hole of the probe and try that out.

What make is that thermo of yours?

I don't know what the name is of the thermometer, but I think it is a standard lab type unit. That's what it was advertised as at Bruhaus where I bought it from.

I will do a search and see if I can find out what the brand name is.

i've have a short piece of 12mm SS pipe welded into my column. I then dremeled down a piece of timber in the shape of a cone and drill a hole in the cone to suit probe thermometer. Just frimly push the timber into the pipe. I get a leak proof seal. Works every time.
