With kiwifruit very inexpensive here at this time of the year, I trialled a Kiwifruit Vodka with pretty universal approval from all who tried it.
I prefer the golden (rather than green) variety. Peel and slice about 4 - 5 regular sized fruit into 1cm thick chunks. Put into a 750ml jar and fill the jar with 40% neutral then seal.
I leave to soak for about 10 days, shaking every couple of days.
I then drain off the spirit, and firstly coarse, then fine filter it (through standard kitchen strainers)
This leaves the spirit very clear with a fruity taste, best served chilled either as a shot or with a split.
The kiwifruit (now alcohol soaked) can be frozen and used later in a pie ( with apple) or as an accompaniment to ice cream or in a smoothie drink.

Might try this as well, if I can make some neutral fast enough. think I'll freeze some kiwifruit now to save for it. was up your way again diving again today teddy, I must drop by one of these trips (at least I did better this time). Also, persimans for $1 a kilo up around Leigh, if you're interested I'm going to do a run up for some (brandy)

Tried the persimmons in the same way (her indoors has a client with heaps falling off the bushes) an unmitigated disaster.
They fell apart very quickly imparted very little flavour and turned the jar into a sticky goo virtually impossible to filter out.
Must say that feijoas were a better result - that said not everyone likes the Feijoa flavour I do!

Great idea,i am going to try this one.Not a vodka drinker,but im sure the missus will like it.She bought a Pear flavoured Absolut vodka last time we went through duty free,its still in the cabinet,tooo sweet.

To be honest my persimmon wine in progress seens to be behaving well. The cap falls every day when I give it a gentle stir and the liquid beneath if looks just as I thought it would. I certainly wouldn't bother stilling it though. I'm making wine only with this lot.
While I'm on about fruit, NEVER try making fig spirits. It's a bit - like I imagine - similar to drinking sand and leaves hair on your tongue.

My experience so far with distilling fruit wine - except grape - has been very bloody disappointing, kiwi. No real flavout at all came through. Just a personal thing, unlike the figs where the flavour came through with a vengenge. Maybe just my taste - I was a smoker when I made the other fruit spirits.
Tater seems to manage OK with his peach, so spend the money kiwi and if you have success I'll try it next year....................maybe.
