I didn't strip the wash, I just ran it slow....

I hadn't distilled for a few years and have forgot some things. I made a wash out of 20#s of sugar and a package of yeast with nutriants and 8 gallons of water. I didn't do the stripping and just got my reflux still up to temp and started collecting. Got rid of the fist 200 ml or so then collected the rest in half pint bottles that I numbered.
The stuff is pretty strong, tastes bad except for some of the bottles in the middle.

I want to try and run this through again to see if I can get it to taste more neutral, so my question is:

Do I need to add more water along with the spirit in the boiler?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you add the same amount of water along with the same amount of spirit.

dilute to 35-40%, for two reasons, safety and some of the off taste will be left behind in the water.some add sodium carbonate befor the second run.

I did a search to try and figure out how much sodium carbonate and came up nill.
Any Idea how much per gallon?
