Hi there people,
Used to brew up to about 15 years ago but liked my mix too much so knocked it on the head and work was taking me around the world and I just didn't have time any more.
Decided to try distilling this time much to the old womans disgust.
I bought heaps of books and scanned the net thinking I was going to build my own, saw a commercial unit in the local brew shop and thought, what the heck, I am lazy these days so took the easy route and launched straight into it.
I make only sugar brews for neutral spirit that I flavour.
Great info in here.

Re: Hi Folks from a new Stiller
Hi dellae, seems like in NZ the brewshops have better stills on offer and I hope you got a good one.
Sugar washes have a positive flavour except for the turbos. DWWG, UJSSM, Rad's AllBran, Rum and other recipes here will all give a surprising amount of flavour when stilled to 95% in a single run. (Strippin first will change that).
Welcome, and your'e hooked!

Welcome aboard, staying out of the kitchen will help keep the heat off as far as the old lady is concerned.

Re: Hi Folks from a new Stiller
When I first beer brewed ~30 years ago we had a very small house and I used to store the brew under the kitchen sink. which annoyed the woman.rubber duck wrote:Welcome aboard, staying out of the kitchen will help keep the heat off as far as the old lady is concerned.
Some of my earlier attempts were not the best and the bottles exploded - with accompanying response from her Lordship.
When we moved to this place it was heaven, almost the entire downstairs of the house is shed and I made the most of it brewing like mad and other activities.
When I decided to start Stilling all I got for weeks was abuse about blowing up the house - 30 years on and she still won't let it go.
What would we do without them????

I know what I would without one, I would drink more.

The Turbo 500.
I'm currently doing some mods to it to make water control a bit easier.
As described in The Compleat Distiller.
