Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Muscavado sugar

Post by gholl3214 »

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has tried using Muscavado sugar. I'm thinking of trying it in a batch of Pugirum. I did a site search but only found one reference to it from 5 years ago.

Thanks, G

I've used it in sweetening some liqueurs, it adds a more molasses-ey flavour. Unless it is cheaper that raw or molasses, I'd just up the molasses slightly to get pretty much the same result in a wash.
Or you could just do it I guess :D

Thanks Kiwi.

A friend of mine is hooking me up with some at a wholesale price. I think it might be fun to do a 10gal. wash. i'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again, G

Hey just a quick follow-up'

The muscavado wash was far from spectacular. It stalled early and became a pain in the a**. Could be that I didn't put in enough nutrients for the extra molasses. Like Kiwi said, I'll save the muscavado for flavoring. I'll be sticking with Pugi's T&T.

Thanks, G
