That barrel wasn't charred near as deep as the half barrel I picked up a few years back. Also, keep in mind that the spirits in the barrel never touched uncharred wood, so by simply using the broken-off, or cut off pieces without charring the rest of the surfaces, you're in new territory, with less than 25% of the wood in your spirits being charred, the remaining 75+% being raw oak.

yea,, im really not sure of what im doing. :shock: after reading all of the posts about over oaking, and how when oaking with less for a longer time is better, i just figured that starting out at "ground zero" would give me a good foundation to build my oaking skills.
at this point, i just cut out one of the variables,,,(less oak). alls i gotta do is go more oaking until i cross the woody taste threshold, then back up :ewink: maby something good will come of it!
