just a couple of questions about my wash
first i ran a 5 gallon wash in about 2 1/2 hours and i think that might have been fast. but after i ran off the first 5 oz. and disposed of it. the following pint or so was only at 65% so i ran it till i got a quart and stated to fill another quart jar. it looked cloudy so i got about a pint and shut it down because it was only 55%.
my question is. it was suppose to be 80% collected down to 70%. so did i do something wrong or to fast?
my column got to 200 degrees at top when i shut it down was that my problem?
i have since added 7 more pounds of sugar to my 1 1/4 gallons of backset and waiting for it to cool to add to my fermenter
i had planned to add the quart of 65% alcohol to the wash right before i run it and throw the 55% away
i used distillers yeast like the recipe called for
thanks and any advise would be helpful

Ok, you should be first doing a stripping run. That means, run the still fast and just get all the alcohol out. no cuts, dont take foreshots. Nothing, just a quick run the alcohol out. Then take your backset, start another wash, and do another strip when thats over. Again, process repeats until you have enough low wines (thats the alcohol saved from your strips) to do a long, slow spririt run with cuts/forshot removal and all.

The flakes, may be your running too hard, pukin shit out of the boiler. What are you using to seal? is it flour? Could be that too, if your using flour.

what type a still are you runnin? when collecting, dont get greedy. as UJSSM directions says, 80 to 70 for concervative cuts.
