Got a question about distilling

Post by thump keg »

I'm about to finish up with my pot build I've cleaned it and distilled water thru it everything went well. Now the question if I gather up all the stuff that I'm not planning on drinking anyway and pour that into my cooker and run it thru. I'm talking beer, wine, char moonshine,PGA all at once. what am I going to end up with?

a bunch of shit... :ewink: It dont matter though you need to run some alcohol thru to clean out what was left behind then throw it away. be sure it is not over 50% ABV,, Then you will be ready to run somthing to drink but not before.

You need to do a cleaning run with alcohol. This run is the sacrificial lamb and it will need to be thrown out. That's what I would do with it. Don't run beer it will stink up your rig.

kinda what I figured so leave out the shine and PGA and use it for a practice run. can I use the shine or the PGA cut with some water for backings for my thump keg?

You can run beer but the next run you do will taste like nasty distilled beer. It wont hurt your still it will just pollute the next run you put through it.

Glad I could help

Sorry about this post I should have been more eloquent with my word selection. Some times my mouth kicks in then the brain follows. I should have said, You will not have anything drinkable. You need to run some alcohol through your still after the vinegar cleaning then throw that away. After that your ready for a run you can keep. I have never run beer through a still so I did not know it would contaminate your flavor on your next run. I did not mean to sound like a dickhead Thump keg I really did not. after reading this again I thought I cant believe I posted that...

No problem Kentucky shinner never thought a thing about I appreciate the straight forwardness. I'm planning on using the horse feed recipe for my first run have you got any words of wisdom on that.

Just make sure you get all grain. Some of it comes with pellets and it is not very good. I love the all grain sweetfeed along with some others on here. Get the horse feed all grain and I think you will really like it.

KS on the horse feed recipe it doesn't say how much yeast to use I picked up a pack of active dry yeast that has three 7g compartments. will that work and if yes how much do I use?

go ahead and use all three. I am sure 2 will work just fine but you will get a little faster start to your ferment I think with 3.
