condenser designs

Post by greenmountainboy »

This is my first attempt at a build. I have the cooker and column figured out, but not sure about the condenser setup. My planned condenser would have 3/8 line from the column entering the top of a a 3" copper pipe capped at both ends, coiled inside, exiting at the bottom, with inlet/outlet in 3" pipe for water circulation. I would install a coupling between column and condenser for ease of cleaning. Any ideas? Also, do I need a water supply to the column to help regulate temps? Thanks

This is a bit vague and a bit worying. A diagram or picture of your rig would help. 3/8" line from the column? Vapour or coolant inside it? Your condenser sounds like a mini worm in bucket if it has vapour inside the coil and water outside it.

Do you need a water supply to your column? Yes if you are using a reflux condenser - unless you are using an air cooled variant.

Regulating the column temperature with water? Are you trying one of the water jacketed column head designs? You certainly can do this but its not the easiest type to start on. There is too much potential for missunderstanding here. Can you clarify it a bit.

Hi greenmountainboy and welcome...

As myles says, you are very vague in your descriptions and going by the type of questions asked, in need of some serious reading...

Have a look at the Parent Site... and the New Distillers Reading Lounge.... Time spent there will help you a lot...

Why not introduce yourself in the Welcome Center... and post a diagram of your design...

Sorry, I guess you did'nt want to here that...

Be Safe Man... :D :D :D
