UJSM Help
Hello everyone, I need some help with some terminology and a few other things. First off, and this is probably a no brainer, when making a UJSM how do I distill it? I know I should use a pot still, but I'm confused as to whether or not I need a heat source. It was my understanding that UJSM didn't require any cooking. Second, what in the world is a "cut"? I keep reading that everywhere, especially in posts concerning sour mash, but I can't figure out what a "cut" is or how to do one. I'm also a little confused on the whole "heads" and "tails" aspect. I appreciate your patience and willingness to help me. Hopefully one day the tables will turn and I will be helping someone who is just as confused and lost as I am!

Welcome to the forum.
Head over to the new distillers reading lounge. There's a guide on making cuts with a pot still. The word cuts is a term use to describe the transition from heads, hearts, and tails. So the cut is where you start collecting hearts. Hearts is the good alcohol that your going to keep for drinking.
Looks like you have a lot of reading to do, Have fun and stay safe.

Re: UJSM Help
Being a new distiller myself, I know that it's easy to want to have the whole process explained to you in baby steps, but this is actually a bad thing. It's a bit like a twelve yr old wanting to learn how to drive a car from a set of instructions. They get the keys in the ignition and then stop to read the next instruction...Works well until you are sliding out of control at 150km/h.
As many others will say, take your time, read all the info (2 or 3 times), spend at least 4-5 hours researching each step of the way. Take notes, then after digesting all that....read some more.
This is not a hobby that seems to forgive ignorance.
I am happy to forward you some links if you are having trouble finding the info you want. One tip is to use the advanced search function to help you narrow down topics.
