Hi,
I have decided to try to flavor some of my neutral spirits by adding some oak chips. Now the netural spirit that I make does need filtering to polish it off ( can taste the turbo yeast )
now I have added my oak chips(non toasted ) to a few liters of un filtered product.
My question(S) are:
After letting it age for a while will I be then able to run this through a charcoal filter and polish it or will it alsoo filter out the wood flavour?
If I add some charcoal to my current jar will this filter it in the jar and not remove the flavor.
As I onl.y put the chips in yesterday should I filter it now ( even if it does remove teh flavor its only been soaking for a day) and then re add the chips to let soak?

it will not remove all flavor, but it will remove some. I know its too late, but check out tried/true. Get something that dont need to be filtered. You talk about adding wood, and charcoal? That is why they char oak barrels. Wood flavor, carmalized center. The aligaotor char on the outside acts as a filter of sorts. But this all dont take place overnight you know.

Just curious, why are you wanting to wood flavor a neutral?

I remember reading a post by Pinto saying that oaking a neutral doesn't accomplish much because likker needs some of the flavor components for the wood to latch onto and mingle with.
