Euro 60

Post by Nully »

Store bought I'm afraid. Comes out about 92 - 93%, each run producing about 7 litres @ 90%. No complaints yet.

How large is the boiler? :?: I was just wondering how much wash was required to get 7L of 90% with your setup.

thanks, :)

The boiler is 60 litre, but my fermentation barrel is less than 50. Sometimes ill throw in some unsuccessful stuff Ive made, that brings up the total a bit more.

Hey Guys,

Can anyone assist in the best mods, column packing and rerouting of water cooling system on the Euro 60 column?
I have read somewhere rerouting the water flow, and changing the packing drastically helps this still out, but I have not been able to find an specific details. I am also thinking of splitting the water in to 2 so column is controlled and the condensor is controlled. Thoughts? Anyone tried it with this still?

Cheers

Separate cooling of the top coil and liebig has some real advantages when running a still.

First off, it looks cool as hell on a still, but really gives you management of the separate temps of the 2 condensers.
When refluxing for an hour, there is no need to cool the product condenser, and when stripping there is no need to cool but one condenser.
I have a pot still and a Boka so it works for me as I can use either or both cooling lines. I can adjust how much water is being sent up to each condenser.
I got an old AC manifold set, mounted it to the top of my still and use the 2 valves to accomplish dual water feeds. It works real well.
Then built a water collection box to see how much is being supplied to each condenser but it is not needed, now I just feel the temps by hand and adjust accordingly. Here's some pic of my rig. Its was fun doing it.

Looks a lot like some of the early Brewhaus units. Two SS Trash Cans welded together with a CM column.

Yay here is preciselt same cooling system you have, what i am planning on doing.
Would you please enlighten me about the benefits of two separate coolings?
I have never had two different independent of each other cooling column's, but i am building one now.
So what are the benefits in this, how does it affect when i can cool them independently?

No need to be rude :).
There was no explanation why should i build two different water circulations instead of doing one big cooling system.
But all that is clear to me now :)

You would get better results by disconnecting the lower through tubes completely. And only using the top ones. On a separate water control then the product condenser.

And as pointed out the cm mod thread is just about modding a cm still like yours. It should contain the info you need to make the best if that still. Link in my signature also.
