toasted/smoked barley grains

Post by Rmolledo »

I added a couple oz of oak smoked barley malt to about 1 qt the other day just for kicks. So far the aroma is awesome and the flavor is subtle. anyone else try something like this?

Did you add straight grains to your distillate? I was wondering about doing something similar with some Rauch smoked malt

i did crushed grains in one and whole grains in the other just as they are. It is kind of like cheating because
I am getting that malt flavor/aroma without using it in my mash profile. I wanted to get some peated malt too but
my local brew shop was out.

smelt and tasted again today and it is really malty in the aroma and subtle in the flavor. I racked and strained today, I'm thinking I'm going to add some oak for a little while to round out the flavor.
