I just did a spirit run for my rum and it turned out great! However, did I propane fired setup in a garage with temp of six degrees F. I'm almost convinced to go electric, however, I still have a few questions.
1. Can I run most all grain and sugar washes?
2. I will use MK's controller, however, I would like to run it about 12-14 feet away in next room from breaker box and don't want to put 220 outlet in room where still will be. Is there going to be a problem with resistance and a 5500W element?
3. Is the weldless ferrule sufficient for element mounting or should it opt to have it welded?
4. I'm guessing that element should be no more than 2-3 inches above bottom of keg, is this correct?
Thanks Doc Dave

1. very well clear'd if you do.
2. not likely,,, my harness is bout 20 ft. long with no issues. I use #8s (chord).
3.IMO i'd have it welded.
4. sounds good. just want to keep it submerged all the time.

LWTSC,
One more question, I already have 30A dryer connection in place, would that be sufficient for a 5500W element or should I run a new box to a 40A breaker that is not being used?
Thanks DocDave

Re: Questions about electric kegs
Only if you want to add. But you don't need a 40 amp breaker. You could get by with a 25 amper with no issues.
30 is perfect really.
My laundry room is directly adjacent to my stilling area,,,but I didn't want the hassel of futsing around with the dryer. So I installed the dedicated 30 for the still.
But your existing 30 is just fine.
Do note that adding an additional 30 may tax your panel to the point that you may need to insure that your don't cook or at least use all elements within your range/oven(50 amp breaker) or dry cloathes while you are stilling.
