Doesn't list any sulpher and ferments out quite nice. Makes a good tasting white rum that I enjoy. I usually color with carmelized sugar and let it sit with a little coconut and raisin. Filter and enjoy on ice.

Tater that is a really good deal on molasses.

I am going to talk to the mill here at the house and see if they will cut me a break if I buy 20 to 30 gallons at a time.

I am buying my corn, rye, and oats in bulk from him so we'll see.

I figured I could make my own sweetfeed cheaper after milling it myself.

Also make more rum with the extra molasses.

The fella at the produce store told me the price is going to go through the roof on their next shipment. I am thinking about getting 200 ltrs again to try and beat the price rise.

Guys,

I've been using fancy grade in my rum, paying about $11.96/gal. I'm just curious, what's everyone paying for fancy grade molasses in their area?

I priced molasses at the local feed store this week since Rum is next in the education.

$9.99 for 2.5 gallon bucket, cheaper/gallon if I wanted to buy 50 gallons at a time

Just looking at a pail of molasses that I have. It's made by Masterfeeds (Edmonton, Alberta), sugarcan molasses, total sugar as invert - min. 40%, 20 Kg. net weight. Not bad at $20 a pail and the pail makes a nice little fermenter for small batches. :D

Evolved Habits Molasses is $7.99/gallon from any Tractor Supply Company and is 82 Brix or better. Pretty potent stuff. It does have a small amount of Propionic Acid in it, but that's easy to rectify by adding in all your molasses and water, then bring it to a boil with a touch of epsom salt. Cool back down and add your other sugars or what have ya. Done and done. That said, my local feed store sells it for $4.95/gallon.

Those with mills close by can obviously get it cheaper, but there's certainly no reason anybody should be paying $10+/gallon.

Bring your own bucket and it's $2/gallon by me.

They had dirty buckets from under the propane tank, I was all No thanks, I'll get some clean buckets and come back. I have a couple 5-gallon buckets with lids that will do the job nicely. I figure a couple of five gallon buckets should get me through a little Pugirum.
