Hawaii

I am planning on spending 20 days in Hawaii on both Maui and Kaui. I have been told that liquor in Hawaii is expensive but haven't seen any prices on line with a google search. The airlines say I can take it with me but it has to be in it's original commercial container. I am debating taking it or purchasing it in Hawaii, we live in a pretty high taxed state as it is. Also it costs $20.00 to check bags and if the bags weigh over 50 lbs it's another $50.00 on top of the $20.00. Any members been to Hawaii lately or live in Hawaii that can give me an idea of price?
