Hey Gents
Well after nearly 12 months on this site and much reading I decided to build a proper pot still.
You may remember my first still which was useful but not really that good.
Got plenty of stick for this one.....
Just wish I had seen this site before building the still
You blokes told me not to rush into making another one......
So it took nearly a year to do
Well now I have a bit bigger and a bit better still
May not be pretty but it does the job real well.
Did a vinegar run this afternoon
An hour 15min to get 2ltre of vinegar
Shut it down cleaned it up and started a cleaning run of Rad's bran recipe.
From the time it started to boil it took 2 hours for 3ltres
Gotta be happy with that.
Admittedly it was cloudy and I'm not sure why.
Perhaps my flour paste was a bit thick on the joiner for the keg and column.
Or just pushing it too hard.
Next week I'll do a proper run
Looking forward to that.
Have also done an UJSSM recipe tonight
Will see how that works out in a couple of weeks.
Cheers
TAF

First real potstill
We haven't got the money so now we have to think
Build it, don't buy it
Build it, don't buy it
Re: First real potstill
Looking good. Got yourself some raschig rings yet? I'm guessing it's too hard to pack your column with copper.....

Hey Kifi
No raschig rings or anything else at this point.
In the process of making a Boka but still need to source some packing for the column.
Need to see what others in Aust are using.
Currently just happy to be able to use a potstill.
Got a Rad's bran that will be ready next week and just started an UJSSM on Sunday.
So next week should have me some shine.
Ran the first lot of spirit through the potstill last night and it is still a bit cloudy.
Not sure why.
Cheers

Why would you want a packed column on a potstillKifi wrote:Looking good. Got yourself some raschig rings yet? I'm guessing it's too hard to pack your column with copper..
Just go to Coles or Woolies, and get some stainless steel scrubbers.Titus-a-fishus wrote:In the process of making a Boka but still need to source some packing for the column.
