help please never made mash before

Post by newb_54 »

I have made alcohol from fermenting corn sugar or granulated sugar and turbo yeast many times. Now I would like to try and make alcohol out of grain but have no idea where to start. I have tonnea of wheat at my disposal can anybody help me understand turning wheat into fermentable sugar?

Go to the search function at the top right corner of any page. Type in wheat mash and
find 1913 matches for wheat mash. Got to be a recipe on what to do in there somewhere.
Really, the only difference between a mash and a wash is the boiling and conversion but then,
thats an extra days work.

If you're using the grain for flavour as opposed to economy, then UJSSM is where most people start, and still are - uses sugar for fermentability (is that a word?) but the corn provides flavour that carries over nicely into the distillate.

newb_54 - go to the parent site. Go to Preparing Wash and start reading. It will give you a good idea of what you need to do to mash grains of all kinds. Note that a lot of what is talked about relates to beer making as well and may not be necessary for mashing to distill. After reading that section a couple of times come back with some specific questions where you may be having difficulty.
