New Micro distiller in the NW.

Little or nothing to do with distillation.

New Micro distiller in the NW.

Post by mash rookie »

I just found out that we have a fairly new micro distiller Woodinville WA.

http://www.woodinvillewhiskeyco.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

They are selling white dog and vodka. They have only been open for a few months and have gotten our state run liquor stores to carry their white dog !

Obviously going to be a couple of years before we get their first barrel aged stuff. They say on the web site it is a burbon grain bill.

They also offer a home aging kit. One of the small craft barrels for their white dog. Great marketing strategy. I think you would have to buy the White dog at the liquor store though.

I have already signed up for the tour. I will take pictures if they let me and report back to the team!

Hey Bushman,

I haven’t tried a search. Had not given it much thought. My buddy bought two tour tickets through Groupon so we went to their web site.

I am going to go buy a bottle of their White Dog and give it a try before I do the tour.

I am happy for them that WSLCB picked up their White Dog. I root for the little guy. I was sad that Uncle Jesses didn’t make it in the business. He seems like a great guy.

Are their any other Micro Distillers in the Seattle area that you know about?

With opening day behind us maybe we will get some boating weather.

That's awesome. I want a report on how the white dog tastes and to see pics from the tour. I think we need a NW whiskey trail of sorts. More of these need to pop up.

This is a quote from the LA Times:
Washington state, where wineries have boomed during the last two decades, is a relatively new player. The micro-distilling business took off here after a 2008 change in state laws that allowed booze makers to serve samples to customers and directly sell 2 liters of take-home spirits per customer per day. Before, all sales had to occur in state liquor stores. As a result, the state has five small distilleries and 13 more awaiting licenses.
My wine club Challenger Ridge just got a license in their Concrete winery to produce Brandy. Dry Fly in Spokane makes a Vodka, Gin, and Whiskey. They throw-out 30% of their cuts and make an excellent drink. Their Vodka last year was voted best in the world, and I've got to admit next to my heart of hearts it's pretty damn good. Something else you probably are not aware of but you can go on the WSLCB site and in any store you can find out their entire inventory. Dry Fly's Whiskey is only allocated to certain stores and it varies from year to year but they do not put it on the shelf so without going to the Web site you would not know it was their you have to go to the counter and request it. The only thing not produced in Washington is the Juniper Berries they import from Oregon for the Gin.

Not sure when my distillery tour is. My buddy is handling that. I will buy their white dog soon though. Their website said it was available at the new SODO store. That’s pretty close to me.

My club is doing a wagon wheel cruise in two weeks at the Viking Fest in Poulsbo.

Ill have the white dog along to compare to some UJSSM.

My wife is Norwegian, I should probably try to make the Viking Fest I've heard good things about it. We have gone to Scandinavian days in Astoria Oregon, and others but have not yet been to the one in Poulsbo!

Its a great time in Poulsbo. Better move fast if you want to get moorage reservations. We are doing a wagon wheel anchor setup out in the bay. We'll have dinghies buzzing around like bees.

I did an anchor cruise several years ago when I was in the Roche Harbor YC
They are fun. Done right , you can walk almost all the way around the circle on swim steps. Looks like a big swimming pool with everybody backed up to it.

This one will be fun. Costume contest on the water Sat during happy hour. Everybody in their dinghies in costume, food and cocktails on every swim step for Vikings to pillage.

I have not done the tour yet but I did buy a bottle of their white dog. The smell of un aged white dog is unmistakable. My girlfriend and my daughter both said it smells like my booze fresh off of the still.

It has a very interesting flavor that I can’t quite place. Kind of sweet, complex. Their website said only that it has a Bourbon type grain bill. Not as much corn flavor as I was expecting. I seems to have maybe oat and wheat tones. It is unlike sweetfeed in that I cant taste any molasses flavors.

I think I will take half of the bottle and put it on oak and leave the rest in the bottle.
I am definitely going to press them for the grain bill when I do the tour!

UPDATE,

Our tour is scheduled. First opening is not until Sept 16th. What BS.

So that how they make money on these Groupon things. Sell something at a low price then schedule it out so far that most people forget about it

Took half the bottle of their white dog and put it on oak. We’ll see if that improves the flavor. Maybe if I over oak it it will be ready by the time they give an over priced tour to us.

Thanks for the review on the white dog. Apparently they did a decent job of distilling it? Not too much of heads/tails discernible?
