Remember The Service Men this weekend

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our service men for there sacrifices that they made during there service to the country. I know for most is was a life changing experience. I can only imagine, I was lucky enough to have never served myself. I have always carried some guilt around with me because of this. I know this forum reaches all over the world so when I say service men I mean all that have served no matter the country your in. Anyone who has been through war has been deeply affected. Some more than others. I know for many service men this is not a holiday of celebration but rather a Holiday of remembering those friends that maybe did not make it home. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you, and I thank each of you for your loyal service and sacrifice. I don' t feel personally that you men and women get the recognition you deserve. You should be allowed to move to the front of any line, and be praised for your service.

Last year a guy at work walked up to me, shook my hand, and expressed his appreciation for my service to our country. It's been 37 years since I served and that was the first time anyone had ever said thanks. It shocked me but it also felt pretty good.

I never served in combat, but I have had good friends who did, and some who gave their all. Military service, in any form, is indeed a life changing event. It will forever alter how you look at life.

The song Taps will be bugled many times this weekend. If you have ever attended a military funeral you will know how special this tune is, how hauntingly beautiful, how so sad, and yet so uplifting a song can be.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest

Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright

9 years US Air Force Desert Storm VET.

Served on Active duty for 4 years doing a year in Iraq. When our Brigade came home, the first stop for us Stateside was in Bangor, ME where we had to refuel. When we got off the plane, there were greeters there (and some soldier's family) that clapped for us and shook our hands. That right there was one of the greatest feelings in the world. Just thought I'd share my story. To those still over there, stay safe... And to all others who served before me, with me and after me.... Thank you.

It took forty years for those who fought in the stinking political war in Vietnam to be recognised in Australia. When troops returned people spat on them. F*****g wanking arseholes!!!!!

Basically the same thing happened here in the US. It was a tough time growing up in the 60's and 70's.
