When i got my first computer years ago I had very little experience with them and figured the only way I was gonna learn was by doing. So "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" was my motto. On AOL my name was Danmtorpedoes because my name is Dan. I have since shortened it because I am lazy and don't like to type all those letters

I used to build stock car and drag engines, and they won alot, so I am fast... Now I own a still so it is fast-still, shortened.... Easy enough.

Ive used my moniker for years - came up with it in highschool - like the idea of something as powerfull and transient as lightning being able to be frozen in time and captured - sort of a metaphore for my brain activities at times.

When I first started this hobby about a year ago I was always ecstatic when the mash would take off and start bubbling. Why I threw a Y on the end and made myself sound gay is anybody's guess.

Actually your name has a very long history. I was covering an English class not too long ago and they were studying Shakespeare not sure which book but in it they talked about partaking in some aquavit and in the footnotes it defined it as strong spirits.

im a big guy, at 240lb and 6 ft 5. im also a very easy goin guy, but after a few jars i develop a very low tolerance for bulls***. especially in my old local, a dingy little heavy rock place where i was considered to be unofficial bouncer and part of the furniture. i just want a quiet drink, you know?

i would be stood at the bar, in my little alcove near the door. all the regulars knew each other well, it was that kind of place. there was very rarely any trouble, rockers and bikers dont tend to be like that, but some weekends a little chav tosser would think it was clever to act the twat in the scary rock place. someone would start to get annoyed, and the shouting would start..

so i would emerge from the darkness, grab the offending little sod from behind with one arm, lift him physically off the floor and deposit him gently but firmly outside the door before closing it.

back to the bar in a calm fashion, and continue with my conversation. by this time the landlord, Eek, would want to know what the hell just happened in his pub, and his mrs Tash would just smile, and in her cute little french accent:

"dont worry. ze whiskymonster, ee sort it out!"

there would always be a double jim beam on the bar a few seconds later!

i miss that place. it's a block of flats now.

Great subject goinbroke, interesting read when I've got time. Mine comes from the mountains I have worked in, in the oldgrowth spar tree days and look at from my sittin chair and still hike in when ever the weather permits. The goat in my pic is a photo I took myself on the very tip of Mt Ellinor. Gota be someone on here that has been there????

KY1792, the year Kentucky found statehood (commonwealth) back then you were given free land if you could grow a certain amount of corn, corn did not keep so they converted it to a more barterable commodity - whiskey is nothing but a long term corn storage solution.

My name came from my hobby, rodeo team roping. Which means 2 guys on horses chasing a cow and throwing a rope at it. The first guy catches the horns (the header) and then turns the cow and the other guy (the heeler) throws a rope at the feet and when they both catch and turn to face eachother the time is taken by the flagger. Teamroping ina nutshell.
