Post by hickboy »

Hi i am new here from oklahoma. I am looking at a Turbo500 to buy and also need to find some good recipes if i could. I have dream about doing this for so long but have never been serious about it until now. I woman named Cheryl reffered me here and said that was a great place to start learning things, so i have arrived a green horn, lol

With the Turbo500 what are all the things I will need to run for the first time? And if anyone has any smoooth recipes that would help to because Cheryl said i needed one that had distillers yeast to get a good yeild out of it.

Thank You all very much in anvance for any help and education i can get here

Hi

Im also a complete novice and trying to learn from these forums as I go along, some things I understand and some things Im not sure what they mean... but Im sure it will come.

I've recently purchases the T500 and am having so much fun with it at the moment. Im sticking to the turbo yeasts at the moment until I can clarify a better quality (tasting) option as Im not concerned about cost because of convenience, but would do the extra work if I could be assured a better quality spirit.
I don't brew beer, so I still have to clarify the recipes are suitable for my T500 eg Ive been told some of the recipes that are supposed to be a better flavour will be stripped of any of those benefits by going through my type of still (Im yet to know the differences between the different types of stills... complete noob here).

I intend asking a lot of questions and doing a lot of searches here to develop my skills, but I must say, for me being a novice, the Turbo 500 has been fantastic, much easier than I expected and a LOT of fun. I purchased the Kit complete with filter etc and Im sure there is a better filter system... or at least a more economical way of filtering as this system suggests I change the filter at $7.95 every 25L wash/batch which is almost as much as Im paying for my yeast and is more than the sugar, however I cheated and ran 3 washes through it, last one took all night but did go through and smelt better than the first so I guess its working ok.

Oh and don't listen too much to what I do, Im still learning

welcome...

$0.02 advice, read a lot before spending your cash...
(turbo yeast, and carbon filtering are not much in favor to all with experience...)

if you are handy with tools, you can save a lot by building yourself...
(lotz of designs here, and many very experienced people here will help...)

if not, you can still save a bit, and match your desired product (what you want to drink), to what you purchase...

try to research for answers before just posting questions (many have come this way, and most simple questions are answered already)...

have fun...
tell me how hard it is to do... tell me how expensive it will be... just don't tell me what i can not do...

lead, follow, or get out of the way... ankle biters will be kicked...

I also wanted to buy something before i stumbled here. I ended up building something for much less than i was going to spend, and i am not particularly handy. I am still very much learning but it is very nice to have something that you build yourself and know inside and out. Plus all the great people here have already made the mistakes for us. They know what they are talking about. Also the tried and true recipes are the way to go. Good luck on your journey.
