I gave her the first test run tonight with vinegar and water. Damn! I have a leak at one of my site glass flanges. My top site glass leaks slightly where I hard soldered it on before drilling. Crap! It means more polishing. I will use soft solder to seal it.

The rest of the site glasses dripped a little. My bad. I thought I could create a seal between the copper and glass. I used lapping compound and a piece of glass to flatten the copper surface perfectly then mounted the glass directly against it with an o ring behind to even the pressure from the nut. I will use a little Teflon tape there.

I used a soap and water spray on all pressure areas to look for leaks. All good. Cooling lines are good too.

I ran her up pretty high. First without coolant so I had a good steam clean through the product condenser, then held her at 215 for awhile with the graham going and the dephlag shut off. Made some nice distilled vinegar water. After that I turned on the dephlag and played with the temps a little.

I know that alcohol will behave quite different but it was interesting that plate two was flooding while the others were not. Not going to make any assumptions until I run some wash.

It will take some practice to run her. I think I have enough feints around to do a practice run after I fix the leaks. (if not I will buy some beer)

I ran my: Sexy Girl” yesterday. WOW! Flutes are all they are advertised to be.

After doing a vinegar run the day before, I took her apart to fix a leak in the site tube. I took this opportunity to acetone rinse and soap scrub every inch of her in and out.

First run was a mixture of old feints, Rum, Neutral, Sweet feed etc. I diluted it 100% then fired her up. After fiddling with controls on the feints I was getting 94% and ready to run 10 gallons of UJSSM .

She was hard to drive. This is going to take some practice. It was producing a steady stream at 94% ABV. I want to collect 75 – 85 ABV% for my whiskey. I was all over the board.
When I decreased coolant to dephlag I had a hard time finding the sweet spot. I would get close then temp would shoot up. it would go like hell and ABV would drop to 65. I may change the ball valve to a gate valve or put a restrictor on the out flow as OD has sugested.

I collected in 750 ml bottles. I got One bottle of heads. Four bottles from the middle and One bottle of tails collected down to 30%

I did take a sample when running 90 plus and diluted the sample for tasting. Damn tasty corn flavor. I am excited to do the blending to see what I got from the run.

I think your gonna have a hard time collecting the body of your run at or below 80.
If I turn off my cooling and crank up the heat im still holding in the 80s.

I think you may have to run her like a crazed wild man to get below 79....

No matter though.....Really good fun figguring it out.

Thanks for the compliment LBT, (do you mind if I shorten it?) The wheel (flute) was already invented so I tried to add my artist touch and show off my building skills.
Hopefully I will inspire others to fancy them up a bit. I am still going to put thunderbolts on her back side!

I finally did my blending of her first UJSSM run. I was real impressed that even the center cuts that were 90% had a wonderful corn flavor when diluted to 80p for sampling. I was worried that it would strip the flavor by distilling so efficiently at the high ABV

I was so please that I kept a little white dog aside and I used almost all of the tails in my blend that went on oak they tasted so good.

She was a little sensitive to run but I am not going to make any major changes until I have a few tries under my belt. Probably just need a little practice.

I have found that nicknames just seem to come when you least expect them. I still have not put the thunderbolts on her butt........But, I did make her a comfortable bed.

Not only can I put her away when not in use. I can store her off my property when not in use.

I should have some UJSSM ready by this weekend. I am getting so much flavor that I am just going to collect at 90+ % and blend just the hearts. My last stuff is really good, rich and smooth, but has so much corn flavor that I think I used to much tails in my blend.

I think I will knock up some Birdwatchers soon. If this baby will do 90 it should make pretty decent neutral.

I will put the thunderbolts on her butt when I break her out this weekend.

I ran my Sexy Girl again yesterday. I struggled. After running my old CM with my dad the day before I started out not using enough heat to get the plates to stack then too little cooling to keep it stacked while the heads are supposed to be compressing. The heads started coming off immediately and I had increase coolant to the dephlag.

After getting things under control I let her run at full reflux for a ½ hour. Then I started slowly decreasing coolant to dephlag and she started producing at 95% -190 proof. I have never seen that high of an ABV before. After taking off a quart of heads, she settled down to a steady 90% ABV. Damn. I have never produced that high before. (I might be reading to cool)

I may still have cooling issues. I think that my dephlag may be siphoning off once and awhile. Two or three times the head temp would start to shoot up and she would start to empty the plates.
Each time I turned water flow up high for a couple of seconds to make sure the dephlag was full then back to my original settings.
She would settle back in to the steady 90% readings at my parrot.

She doesn’t seem to run as describe by OD. He said that the hearts would just stop. Then you would collect the tails by turning off the dephlag. She responded more like my old rig. When I got near the tails the head temp started creeping up and ABV sliding down. Once I knew I was at the tails I did shut off the dephlag and collected the tails.
I am pretty sure I am running enough water through the dephlag or I wouldn’t have gotten the high ABV. Maybe I was running the boiler to fast? Maybe my dephlag siphoned off at that moment near the tails?

Really fun to run, but she moves so fast I found myself running. I distill in my shop. My long coolant exit lines go under the big door and out into the yard. I was constantly running out to observe coolant out flow and temp. The long lines may be causing my problems. Maybe I should run very short exit lines into a garbage can next to the flute and siphon it off as necessary.
