Sweet Feed Grain Bill question

Post by XD40 »

I am wanting to take a crack at the Sweet feed recipe that everyone likes so much. Problem is that all the bags i find have found have forms of pellets in the mix. I can go to a place local where they will mix up a 50lb bag of anything I want for around $15, so Im going to go that route. My question to you experienced distillers would be which grains/molasses etc would be ideal for the sweet feed recipe?
Thanks!

Good question. There is a feed store near me, and I've been reluctant to go in and ask questions without some guidance on what to ask for. Instead I've been buying molasses at the bulk food store for 65 dollars for 5 gallons. Ouch. Let me know when you find out the answer to this one....

Corn , Oats, Barley will work fine. Many feed stores sell this as ....... COB. The ones near me sell it with Molasses or without for the same price about 13-15 devalued Merican dollars.

I Appreciate the info but Corn oat & barley doesnt sound like a "sweetfeed" mixture to me? I will let you know what the grain bill is. Im going to go to the feed store & tell them what i need i.e. No pellets. Ill post the grain bill after. Thanks guys.

COB with molasses qualifies as SF in my book, your mileage may vary. $15 for 50lbs, in Oregon.

cheers

The "sweet" in sweet feed comes from precense of molasses. No molasses = not sweet feed. Put molasses in, no matter what the grain mixture, and it is sweet. :)

I just looked through the last 4 pages of the sweetfeed thread and found three different posts of grain bills? That thread has all the info a sweetfeed wash you would ever need in it.

Thanks, ive read it a few times myself in the last week lol. I was just asking what the ultimate graib bill would be give the option to use any grains/molasses etc. Not just a premixed bag from the local tractor supply.

There was a thread here a while back where the member was making his own blend, molasses and all. It might be un-findable(?), unless somebody reading this remembers where it is.

I remember it. And I looked for it. But searching sweetfeed brings up so much. And I can not remember the posters name?

I found some call horse candy, oats corn and mollasses, $9.50 - 50lbs. I may add barley to it, Call and as for goat feed as it dont have all the other additives. Hope this helps.
