Attachment spam surges as botnet operators attempt to rebuild
Although the overall incidence of spam is down, thanks to efforts by Microsoft and others to take down some of the biggest botnet spammers such as Rustock, over the last few weeks there has been an uptick in "attachment spam," a term that refers to email messages that have malware-infected files attached). This started at the beginning of August, with a 500 percent increase reported between August 8 and 12. This seems to indicate that the botnet operators are attempting to rebuild their nefarious networks. So don't click that attachment unless you're 100% sure of its origin! Read more here:
Yes, very 'off-topic', but this is something which new or 'intermediate' computer users should be very aware of. Having your computer become a zombie for some scumbag can be a very bad thing, and I do know that several members here have experienced this in the recent months (or at least talked about some prior 'infection').
