Im almost deaf and i need some advice

Post by scotty »

I would like a set of headphones that i plug unto a usb port. They need to have volume adjustable for both ears. My right ear is my best ear the left one hears ony very trebbly sounds.
The primary purpose for these earphones will be so i can listen to teaching videos, the news and sort of u tube type teaching video.
i know nothing about headphones and i havent listened to music videos for years so im asking for help here because im sure that there are are some sound freaks in our gang. im an aging motorcycle freak.
please help and ask any questions you care to-- it will not be embarrasing. i will spend a couple of hundred dollars or more if necessary. there is so much i can learn available and being almost 70 years old i have time on my hands. i am not qualified to make a sensable purchase in this area
thanks all in advance.

For just general use I would pay $50 max and $15 min for earphones Anything above that is best left for music makers/lovers etc etc below that there just shit. And wont work long. There are diffrent styles of ear plugs though. Ranging from the big old fully surround the ear muff style right upto the new trend of little " plugs " that you sit in your ear canal.

Those 2 are the main types of earphones on the market today. I dont think your hearing troubles will affect any earphones, you should be able to hear fine. All will use a headphone jack though not usb. Anything with usb will usually have headphone jack anyway.

All in all just buy headphones that your comfortable in. and most big electronic brands make headphones, there good. Sony, Lg etc etc

Happy listening

I too have BAD hearing, from working around jets in the USAF and then 40 years working around heavy equiptment. I have aset of 'Pioneer' ear muff style 'phones that work quite well. The muff style directs (after bouncing it around some) all the sound into the ear. Even with my worse left ear, these phones work well for both sides.

Another problem is the audio on DVD's. When watching TV (stations) news, shows, etc. the sound is loud enough, but DVD audio output is WAY too low. (I think they [who are they??] expect that everyone has a $400.00 home theater system) (or are conspiring with them)
To get sufficient volume to understand their voices, the sound was very distorted. I bought a 'sound bar' setup from 'Boston Accoustics' that had a hundred watt {50/50 channel} output and a nice sub-woofer. (just went and looked 'TVee model 20')
Visio (and a few others) sell soundbars, but these units do not have near the output as the 'B-A' unit. -hey-
