Hi to all.
Thanks for all the info this site offers.Have been brewing beer for a long time
(full mash) and thought it time to try my hand at making some spirit.
Still have a lot to learn and improve at this new hobby.
I have a refux still with a fifty lt boiler and a 3kw element.
At the end of the run the temp goes down and not up, say from 72-65 c when all i read
it is supposed to go from aprox 77/78-82/85.But produced 92% .
Any info appreciated.

Unless I'm reading this incorrectly,,,That should not be possible unless you are flooding your column.

Have you checked the calibration of your thermometer against a bench mark?

Are you equalizing your column prior to take off?
How much input/heat are you running?

Can you give more detail and perhaps post a pic of your outfit?

Yes ,put it in boiling water,forgot to say that the spirit had stopped at this point and then the temp went back up to 68/69C,
and stayed there for an hour until i had had enough,no more spirit and switched it off.
Has done this on the last 2 runs.

Haven't heard of equalizing,how do you do that?
Using a 3kw element and a 40 LT wash, (25LT wash +15LT water)

at 65-72 you should be in for shots ,it should stay there just a few minutes ,,unless your running pant thinner.
then rise to 78.3 during the run then at end rise rather fast..so id say your thermometer is off even if it is correct at 100c.

Run it under full reflux on low power for an hour or so. This will help with separation, and give you a cleaner product.

what kind of reflux still are you running?
