Hello from Oregon!

Post by Darth Whisky »

I've been participating in whisky tastings around the Portland, Oregon area for the past 6+ years (primarily Scotch). There's a great micro-distilling scene around here and I'm ready to try my hand at it!

I'm going to start off using the Ian Smiley book on corn whiskey. The engineer in me likes the challenge of building the equipment.

Already getting some great info from this forum. Thanks to everyone for sharing!

Welcome aboard,

It's always good to have another web foot on the forum.

I have to agree with LWTCS, hold off on your build and don't use the designs in that book. There are better designs on this forum.

Another Moss covered entry into HD, welcome! If you want to get started making whiskey I would humbly recommend a simple pot still like Samahon's design which is available here. 6-8 months of age on your first work will blow you away quality wise. Low abv washes, running slow, and tight cuts will have you some fine product in no time.

Welcome to the slippery slope!
cheers

BTW, I will be very interested to hear about your observations as you learn to evaluate from the bottom up rather than from the top down.
