Newguy Intro

Post by cajunsurveyor »

Hello Everyone,

Just introducing myself to everyone. I have been picking over this website for weeks trying to prepare myself for my first try at this (distilling). I am about 30 miles North of the Gulf of Mexico, deep in the heart of Cajun country. I am currently brewing my first batch of beer as a prep for dealing with grains and mash preparation. Ultimately I am wanting to distill and create whiskey, rum, and maybe Schnopps for only my personal use. This is something that I have lusted after for many years, but never thought was possible. I thank all of you for the great great information contained in these forums and I apologize in advance for asking redundant questions! My first delima is deciding how to acquire a pot still and what size (keeping me up at nights!) I would love to purchase a Hoga pot still, but I am uncertain about the companies reputation. Anyhoo...cant wait to put everyone's great ideas into practice. TTYS.

Hey cajun, Welcome to the group, I looked at the Hoga web site and I haven't known anyone that bought one of these before but they shure look pretty. I think you could get a good pot still for a lot less money though. I personally use a reflux for neutral spirits but have a pot still as well for use this winter when I have more time for experiminting. Good luck.
Sometimes I wonder why is that Frisbee getting bigger......and then it hits me.
