Re: electric element
I cut my holes in my keg every 120 degree, so that means I cut the holes every 1/3 away around the keg. Two holes are about 5" from the outside base bottom to top. Then one as low as possible for a drain. I have a 5500 watt with KS mk5500 controller. And a 2000 watt with a dimmer setup that I buildt. Takes about 20 min. To heat up, then I drop the power to what ever it takes to finish up the run.

Don't forget to position them so they are not in your way when you carry it by the handles. I put my drain so it would be between my legs when carrying it. It works out pretty good. Haven't hit my chin on it yet. Knock on wood. Here have a look. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 8#p6901593
And here is the elements installed looking in. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 0#p6926938

Re: electric element
when you installed the unions on the keg did you made the holes in the keg so the unions would go trough or a bit smaller then the unions so they would sit on the keg wall?

Re: electric element
They are 1" NPT I used a 1" holesaw cut the hole. Then held the fitting in place while I tackt it. Then welded it. I should have cleaned the hole up a little better after the weld. But it works good. I did try to gas purge during welding. But it didn't work to good. It turned out fine just not as good as I wanted.
Remember you want the lower element high enough off the bottom to have good circulation around it. And the second above it so they don't interfere with each other when installing the elements.

It is amazing how great minds work, my drain is in the middle also! Did not see or read about your setup boiler either, but it looks like we both came up with the best plan on a boiler! ![Thumbup ](./images/smilies/icon_thumbup.gif)
