Hi Everybody!

Post by SuperSam »

My name is Sam (obviously lol!) I live in a small town in Alabama. I work as an IT technician for a major steel manufacturer. I am new to distilling... never built a still but I've looked into it here and there for the last sever years. I've recently gotten serious about trying to put together my first still so I'm sure you guys will be hearing from me pretty often over the coming weeks :) I've read pretty much everything on the "Home Distiller" parent site but I'm sure I can come up with about a million dumb questions for you guys lol

I believe I may have gotten off on the wrong foot with some of the guys in the "Column Distillation and Design" forum so sorry if I committed some kind of faux pas...

Welcome aboard again.

So what kind of drink are you after?

And now that you have read all the parent site. You get to read all of the threads contained here. :lolno: Ok maybe not all of them. But there is a lot of good info here that picks up where the parent site leaves off. Some of that info is on the old side of the hobby. The stuff you read around here is the latest and greatest around. So soak it in. New distiller reading lounge is a good starting point. And the safety section is always a must.

Hi Sam
Try not to let the guys in the column forum to get ya down...They are so particular about things and very difficult to please.

Welcome supersam, what sort of drink are you after? Depending on what you want to make there are many simpler designs to start you off and get you a basic idea of distilling and at pretty low cost if you build your own. There are hours and hours of great reading on this forum and it's hard to do much of it without learning at least a little. Enjoy the forum and the hobby.

Thanks, LWTCS! I'll definitely try not to take it too personally

At the moment, I want to try making "neutral spirit". Do you have any good suggestions, Olympic?

Its good to meet you guys, by the way!

Hello there Sam, I think you will find some pretty good guys here willing to help you out. If I can help in anyway let me know.
You just have to decide what you want to make then you can decide what kind of still you want. Do your research and you will be fine I am sure. The thugs around here will keep you straight..

Hi Sam, If you are after neutrals you'll want a reflux still, I have a milehi that I am happy with but I think I am going to build a boka colum to go with it. So many designs and so little time, just keep looking around on this forum and you'll be overwhelmed with ideas, have fun and stay safe.
