sulphured molasses is it usable?

I recently went looking for molasses at the local feed store what I came up with a a 3.5 gallon bucket that has at least 33% sugar and according to the supplier no preservatives minus the sulphured part. So my question is do I have a worthless bucket of brown goo or can I use it to make rum? Also is there a way to know if this is Beet or cane.
