Variac Controller

Post by Jasper »

I bought a router controller and was thinking about modding it with a heatsink... but would i be better off getting a variac if i could find one for cheap and return the router controller? That would basically fix all my problems with no tinkering and provide a longer term solution, right? I have a 1500 watt element that i will be running on 120. Would a 20amp work or is that overkill?

Anybody have any thoughts? Would something like this work for my purposes or do i need to scale down to a 14 amp or something along those lines?

Put the heatsink on the router speed controller. And go. I did and I'm happy with it so far.

1500 W / 120 V = 12.5 A.

20 A is not overkill because you will be running it continuously for long periods. It'll be good to have a margin.

14 A would work but 20 A would probably heat up less and last longer.
