Getting Closer Every Day

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.

Getting Closer Every Day

Post by whiskeyhound »

Been slowing building my new pot still in my spare time. Finally got my parrot made. I think I will rework the base. It dose not stand up on its own. Maybe a 1x2 reducer fitting on the bottom will keep it upright...
Boiler arrived and Fitted up nice to my 31" liebig and 2" fittings. Not sure if i like the 18" of rise out of the top of boiler but i guess thats easy enough to rework. It think ill run it a couple times before i change anything.

Working my my heating controls at the moment. Last thing. Getting really excited.

Quick question. If i started a fermentation now but for unforseen circumstances couldnt still it for a week what is the best way to deal with it? Rack it off and cap it off?

Thanks everyone for this great source of information!!

Looks good.

Maybe a nice piece of oak not the bottom of that parrot would make a nice foot.

A wash will take a better part of a week or two. So its hard to say. But you can defiantly rack it to a secondary fermenter until your ready to run. I would sugestion an air lock. Just in case it truly wasn't completely done fermenting. Others may say different. Just my two nickels.

nice looking rig, and i like the idea of using a block of wood, perhaps with a drilled hole for the base of the parrot. i have gone as long as 3 wks after a ferment was done and racked b4 i ran it. maybe try to keep it in a cool place.
today marks the dawn of a new error.

Ill try using some wood and see how it turns out. Those 2'' fittings get kinda pricey.

Nice work whiskeyhound. Work at learning to make your cuts so you can produce liquor that's as nice as that still you built.

good luck

Very nice, where did you purchase the boiler?

+1 letting the fermentation sit for a week is fine.

Good Idea. That would open up a couple of options on elevations for my output. Ill have to play around on my cleaning runs and see how fast I can run it and if the liebig can handle it at a 45 Degrees slope.

Got the boiler from HillBilly Stills. Very nice group of people there. Good communication shipped fast. One of the gaskets that came with the boiler was damaged, I mentioned it to them and couple of days later 4 new ones showed up, no questions asked!! Very good service.
