cleaning a scorched heating element

I recently scorched my heating element. I scorched it while boiling up some cracked corn. My element is covered with a black crust that doesn't want to come off. I've tried soap, scrubbing, soaking in hot water and methanol.

Does anyone have any experience removing burnt black crust from a heating element that won't cause any damage?

Perhaps one of the oven cleaner such as Mr. Muscle or Easy-Off might work.

I did try one oven cleaner, Cabona, it didn't do anything. So far the only thing making a dent are my finger nails. I only have a few left so I gotta find a better way. I think I will try Mr easy muscle etc. Is there anything I should stay away from? I don't want to damage the element.

I've never done it myself but I have heard that an overnight soak in cold water with biological washing powder, followed by a boil up, can save a lot of elbow grease.

I have had real good luck cleaning up stuff that I work on with a product called Simple Green Heavy duty BBQ & Grill Cleaner! Try some of that on it and let it soak on it!
