Making cuts with Flute
I have been running a flute for 3 runs now. I had 3 Wineos sugar wash that I distilled. I have to say the product that came out was the best that I have produced so far. However, I don't really have a clue about making good cuts on it. I know the Flute does a better job at concentrating the different fractions. The 10 Gallon run, I took 500ml as Foreshot and ? heads. Everything after that came off 170-190 proof for about 2 quarts. Then it started to drift down to 150 proof and I would stop collecting and allow it to reflux for an hour or so and then start collecting again. By this time I was 8 hrs or so into the run and had to stop because of time. When I pot stilled, I did fairly conservative cuts and could tell when the hearts were coming. Do you guys think the 500ml had all the heads? I rather have quality over quantity. I then converted most of the spirits into Panty Droppers since its scientifically proven to work and it being Valentines day.

Flute not intended to scrub like a Mistral column.

Larry, what is a Mistral column? I'm not familiar with that term.

Shoot,,,dern autospell. I meant neutral column.
Sorry.
some operators have added plates/ extensions for getting a more neutral product but the packed column would be the tool to use for neutral.

Thing is Larry is my hero, his design builds have broken all the barriers... so I think we should give him some slack.

Yeah without Larry's videos. I wouldn't have even thought of installing a skylight in the ceiling. So I could run a taller column.Slow & Steady wrote:Thing is Larry is my hero, his design builds have broken all the barriers... so I think we should give him some slack.

Re: Making cuts with Flute
Wow, I googled and read and read, only to find it was a typo. I know how wonderful this forum is but know how laziness is frown upon. I didn't want to ask a dumb question. The flute I use has 4 plates and I just couldn't taste or smell the heads like I did when I pot stilled. I probably collected a bunch by taking so much for the foreshots. Any suggestions or am I on track.
