proofing parrot dimensions

Can anyone give me the length of the main tube? Can't find it anywhere.

WL- measure your alcometer. Make the tube the same length as your meter. Put just a little rolled up piece of copper mesh in the bottom. The mesh will help cushion the meter and it will make the alcometer just barely stick above top of the parrot tube.

It has to be tall enough for your hydrometer to float in it and has to be big enough diameter that your hydrometer doesn't bind by hydraulic tension to the sides of the tube. Mine is 1"x12".

And as Prairiepiss always suggests, don't forget to pack a little copper scrubber in the bottom so it doesn't commit suicide on you!

All of the ones that I've made and sold (over 20 of them) have been 11.5" x 1"

1" provides a more accurate measurement if you are doing a fast takeoff - the rising liquid doesnt make the meter bounce up and down then.

I don't know why them damn things are so depressed. They are always killing themselves. And they got the life. Just bob up and down in alcohol.

The first hydrometer I bought came in a plastic tube. The bottom of the tube was capped rather than moulded. Wouldn't ya know it, the suicidal bugger blasted the cap right off and smashed on the floor. After ordering a new one, I noticed they began packaging them in a moulded tube. Kind of like making a mental patient wear a helmet I guess

Well here it is. I don't think it's too bad considering i have never soldered pipe in my life. Any way it's all polished up. Someone said I could coat it with clearcoat to keep the shine is that right?

Just a quick question, white_likker1
Does the main body extend a tad bit above the reducer fitting?

On mine I usually put the main pipe about a 1/4" above the fitting - makes it easier to read the proofer. They also are a bit nicer if you use a 1 1/2 instead of a 1 1/4 adapter and put the output pipe as low as you possible can - but you usually have to use a drill press to pull that one off.

it actually does not. I started building without any plans to follow. I plan on building another one very soon. This time I know what I am doing and am going to make a tutorial on how to build one along with schematics.

Mine is 10" tall I use 1" ID pipe and modified some reducers to make the base and the overflow urinal and 1/2" OD tubing on the inlet and 3/8" OD tubing on the outlet.
Here's a pic of it before I completely finished it. this one is stainless but you can use copper stainless is more readily available for me.
