Need some help with buying a still
Hey guy's, been a forum looker for a long time now and I have learned a ton and you guy's are awesome and very helpful. Building a still is not an option because I don't have the time but I do have access to a propane burner and also a 15.5 Sankey keg so I just need the condenser and the tower. The best option's so far that looks good is Mile Hi Distilling. I love Whiskey but would occasionally like to do a Rum and and rarely a Vodka. What do you think would be the best tower for me on Mile Hi Distilling or any other site that would fit my needs for my price range, which is anything under $ 175. Thanks again guy's look forward to the some of the responses.

Any of them?
You can unpack and don't hook up reflux lines to make rum. You can follow the CM Mods link and they work ok.
So... Pretty much... it's up to you.
That being said... I've got the Mighty Mini

If you don't have time to build a still? You don't have time to run a still.
Things to keep in mind. You must be present the whole time your still is running. So this means anywhere from 6 hours to 14 hours to run a still. If you don't have or can't set aside this much time then you mite reconsider your new hobby.
With that out of the way. Both Mile high and Brewhaus rigs are good well built stills. They are considered by many to be not a good design. CM stills can be fidgety and hard to control. And they are not the best for making neutral. But they can make a pretty good neutral with a little work. Again 14 hours later. Give the cm mod link in my signature a read through. It's about improving these stills. And it goes more into detail about them.

You know... It's been a learning experience, but once I got the MODS made to it....Insulate the column and separate the condensers... it works like a charm.whitewolfrun wrote:hey rumbrewer hows the mighty mini working for you i've been eyeballing it myself?
I don't like how inefficient the LieBig is.... no fast stripping runs. But in Reflux mode I'm making 91% at a broken stream. In Pot mode, it comes across at about 70 dwindling with every jar.
The heads seem to smear a bit, but I'm going to try some soda for that. The tails come on in 1 swift move, so they are easy to find.

I'm pretty sure thats the law.rgarry wrote:Hillbilly produced me a nice flute. However, it came with a serial number and that I don't like.
I can tell you that under federal law any still vendor can be forced to relinquish all their records and they legally must give up your info.

Yeah, that's why I built my own - tried to source the parts from various stores and sites that weren't associated with still selling. Of course, my construction skills are meager at best, but some of the most fun I've had has been learning by doing. And redoing. Then learning to try planning out the build steps in advance to try and avoid my previous mistakes.astronomical wrote:I'm pretty sure thats the law.rgarry wrote:Hillbilly produced me a nice flute.
