Hi from the UK

Post by UKChris »

Hi guys,

I've been doing a bit of research on here for a few weeks now, thought it was about time I registered!

One of my favourite hobbies is drinking, so I thought why not try and make my own, hopefully have fun doing it and maybe save some money while I'm at it!

Ive got a lot of questions but I'm going to hold off asking them until I've read up some more, 2 things I've learnt so far, don't use turbo yeast and don't ask stupid questions that have been answered before ;)

I'm probably going to build a simple potstill to start and use one of the simpler recipes off here, although I'd love to jump in feet first and make a mess I will resist lol

If anyone else in the UK can recommend any suppliers for stuff I'm going to need that would be great, quite like the UJSM recipe/method but where do I find cracked corn over here??

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the forum, it's certainly a wealth of information!

Welcome Chris,

I have run a few sweetfeed ferments and I got rolled oats, flaked barley, molasses and cracked corn from a local animal feed suppliers. I'm in the Yorkshire area. 30 quid gets you 25Kg of each grain and 5 litres of molasses. probably last me a year, or go off before I get chance to use it

Hi Chris,
I'm also a beginner to distilling and unable to get hold of pure cracked corn but there is a local animal feed warehouse near me that does sell mixed corn and other grain crops.

I have no idea what kind of liquor mixed corn will produce.

By the way the animal feed warehouse is in County Durham, don't know if this helps.

For copper/fittings/etc. try... >>BES<< ...&/or... >>Trading Depot<<

EDIT to add: Flaked Maize may be a suitable alternative to cracked corn

Hi mate, thanks.

Looks like animal feed suppliers are a good source, do they not usually add preservatives though, which would be bad right?

Seems like a popular hobby up here in the North lol

Seems to be a few UK based guys on here, good to know!

Do you know if the maize would be suitable for UJSM recipe?

Cheers :)

Thanks buddy, seems we are fairly close, I'm not a million miles away from Durham myself lol

Thanks for those links, looks like a good source of stuff for a build, should be handy!

I'll look into the maize idea too, am I correct in thinking we in the UK call corn maize?
