Where to get 3" copper pipe in Mpls.

Post by recently3 »

Hey all,

I've been reading this site for several weeks learning about distilling and carefully planning my first build. This site has been a wealth of information and I've been able to find answers to almost all my questions I want to do a 3" Boka on a 50L keg. My problem is I can't find any place that will sell me 3 inch copper pipe around the Minneapolis area. None of the scrap yards will sell any of it, they say they only buy. I've called several and stopped in at a couple and they all tell me they don't sell it, they only buy it. Buying at new prices are too expensive. I've seen several people on here that say they can buy from scrap yards with no problem. I don't have any buddies in the plumbing business either... Any fellow Minnesotans out there that may have a source for me? I get down to Rochester sometimes too and could go someplace around there also. I'm also looking for a 15.5 gallon keg.

Help a noob out?

sounds like you may hafta go the 2'' route, all the fittings, elbows, reducers , tri-clamps would be much easyer to find.
today marks the dawn of a new error.

Try heading south. Not like I live there or anything, but I may know. scrap yards south of metro have no problems selling scrap. When you find it. Owatonna scrap metal usually has a good variety, And I know they sell.

I had decided to make a pot still today and see what it cost. Went to a local menards and was out 75.00, with extra 1' and 2" pipe. The problem is the fittings add up quickly.

There is a guy on ebay in northern Iowa, just a couple hours south of ya. That often list various used copper pipe. I will look and see if I can find any of his ads and post them for ya

this is insanely expensive, but maybe you can offer him a price on a select piece. I make offers often with mixed results, never hurts to try. Bonus he is in Minnesota, you might be able to save a buck or six on shipping by picking it up yourself.
