Look the whole search engine thing here is some what lacking I'll have to admit. BUT search engines probably cost billions to develop when you want a "badass one" that works A+. I'm sure that this forum doesn't have any where near that kind of money, now if you need to search, use Google and it will point you back to this website likely and you can find your answer.

Secondly, I'm sure most people in here have made beer and wine, after all obviously we ALL know it's cheaper to buy our hooch and or beer/ wine at the store, but WE like to make our own, your the same way obviously.

Now the big difference with this hobby and wine/beer making is you can get hurt, and you can hurt others in the process. That's why mentors strongly encourage people to READ up on the basics and the rules to live by. EVERYONE wants to be safe and we don't want others to get hurt, cause that hurts us all in the cause to one day have a legal hobby still

Only thing i have to disagree with is it being cheaper to buy beer. I can make a simple Pale Ale for around 10 bucks for 5 gallons of beer, that comes out to 2 cases and a 6 pack for 10 bucks, i have yet to see ANY beer at the store that you can buy that cheap. Even the Really Rot Gut Beers, like Milwaukee's best ice are around 8-12 a case here, So For the price of one case of crappy beer, i can make 2 cases and a 6 pack of Quality Pale Ale.

Here is the Price Break down:

American 2-Row 5lbs (Rahr):$6.60
Caramel 40L 1lb (Briess) :$1.59
Columbus Pellet Hops 1oz:$1.60
Munton and Fison Ale Yeast 1 package:$1.20
Total : 10.99 for 5 gallons of beer.

I always buy my grain in Bulk so i get it even cheaper than that. I will say this, i have made the Above Beer many times, Even spent a bit more on better yeast, but as that recipe sits, ill take it over Any bud miller or coors product any day of the week lol.

You get what you get. I get what I get. Joe blow gets what he gets. And more then likely none of us will get the same thing. It's only a guesstamate til you run it. That was the hole point of that thread. Apparently I didn't convey that good. But hopefully you have found your answer.

vance71975 wrote:the whole point of forums, IS to be "spoon fed" as you like to call it, i prefer to call it free exchange of information. If you had it your way, a FORUM would not exist. If NO ONE ever asked a question and just "researched" there would be no forums, the whole POINT is to ask questions and make it easier to get the answer to your question, the point of a forum is not to be told "research" if Research was what i was after, i would simply GOOGLE IT and i sure as hell would not join a forum.

Vance, with all due respect. I think the points have been made and receieved on both ends. However, your above statement is incorrect. "the point of forums" is a very vague generalization. Every forum is different, like a company or business. Those who run the company--in this case, the administrators---dictate the objectives and goals of the forum. The administrators on this forum CLEARLY do not encourage spoonfeeding and require "mandatory research" before posting questions. In fact, it's been discussed here several times, of possibly passing a quiz or an exam before being allowed to join or post.

If you don't have time to research, or sort through posts, you honestly shouldn't be running a still until you have the time. I researched for a year before I finally joined and began running a still. So go ahead and simply "GOOGLE" it because it will lead directly to this site, where the question has been answered many times over....which is exactly why Mr. Piss was telling you that elementary questions being answered over and over just cloud up the forum and takes time away from answering questions from those who have done their mandatory research.

Don't take this personally, I know you feel like you're being attacked, we're just trying to tell it like it is. Good luck in your endeavors.

Must have been a best seller was it? Tell your publisher that you want to give a hydrometer with every copy as a marketing ploy. Then go buy one. Your hydrometer is now free.

Sales have been slow, which i expected between the poor economy and the narrow focus of the book, but i do get a nice lil check every 4 months.

"100 years ago didn't use one, they had to have some formula that worked based of the volume they collected."
research "reading the bead" and "proof"
but giving the basics..if it will light on fire with out heating its over 50%...if you pour some on black gun powder and the powder ignites , its 57 percent or more . (this seems to be quite accurate)(is the base for British proof)
(reading the bead)if shaken, it bubbles on top..the size and how long the bubbles last determines the proof... (a long learning curve)(oils etc can effect the outcome)
